Where to Route a Tarrant County Jail or Records Question

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office is led by Sheriff Bill E. Waybourn and operates the county jail system through the Detention Bureau. Use these official channels for custody, jail, and public-information questions:

Tarrant County Sheriff's Office
200 Taylor Street, 7th Floor
Fort Worth, TX 76196
Non-emergency: 817-884-1213
Sheriff's Office Administration: 817-884-3099
Detention Bureau information line: 817-884-3000
County operator: 817-884-1111
Public Information Act email: openrecords@tarrantcountytx.gov
Public information fax: 817-884-1675

The Public Information Act request page accepts requests online, by mail, by fax, and by email. Tarrant County notes that requests should describe the records with enough detail for the office to locate them, such as full name, CID if known, booking date, arresting agency, and the type of record requested. The Sheriff's Office homepage and the county inmate search are separate official starting points for custody information.

  • For someone in the county jail, start with jail inmate records and the Tarrant County inmate search.
  • For booking photos, use jail roster mugshots and the county's inmate records and mugshots channel.
  • For charges filed after booking, use court records after a jail arrest and the Tarrant court portals.
  • For a facility location, check the detention facility pages listed in the footer before visiting or sending money.
  • For a sentenced Texas prisoner, use the Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate search.
  • For federal or immigration custody, use the BOP inmate locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator. Texas VINELink is a separate notification channel for custody alerts.
  • No official Tarrant County sheriff mobile app was documented, so use the official county web pages and phone lines instead.
